Long tables, lots of tools, tires, chairs, and other pieces are the first chapter of a story that always seems to have the same happy ending with each Do it Center Foundation event. With a little bit of effort and time out of our "busy" schedules so many people are given the gift of mobility and are now able to write new chapters in their lives. Such is the case for Juanita. After many anxious sleepless nights leading up to the free wheelchair event, Juanita arrived with her family and was quite surprised to be greeted by complete strangers with smiles on their faces and their arms wide open. The short speeches by the organizers and Mayor of San Jose seemed like an eternity as she anxiously waited for her free wheelchair. As she climbed up into her new wheelchair we saw a huge sigh of relief along with uncontrollable emotion. Her tears told us what she was unable to express in words. Today, Juanita's family tells us that she is happier than ever. She is more outgoing and positive. Juanita is interacting with classmates, engaging in classroom discussion and tells us that she is eager to study medicine. We have a lot more work to do and need more funds to make sure that Juanita's story is repeated many times over!
